Last week, we completed our pilot of the Food Theater Project Youth Workshop Series with the enthusiastic and extremely talented teens of Jane Addams High School. Their gave a stellar performance of their original work in front of their entire school, and we are incredibly proud of them.

We can’t wait to share this fun and educational program with more teens throughout the five boroughs!

LightBox recently attended the W. K. Kellogg Foundation Food and Society 2008 Gathering for Good Food, where we shared highlights of the Food Theater Project with 550 food advocates from around the country. It was truly inspiring to connect with so many people working in this important field!

Our original multimedia play about the politics and pleasures of eating completed its successful 4-week run at 3LD in NYC last fall, and next appeared in Amherst this summer as part of the Ko Festival of Performance. Check back often for upcoming tour locations.

LightBox is participating in the Baum Forum Schools, Food, and Community Conference on April 12th at the Columbia University Teachers College. We’ll be sharing information about our Youth Workshop Series, the LightBox Approach, and Milk-N-Honey, our original play about the politics and pleasures of eating.

LightBox will be taking Milk-N-Honey on the road to the KO Festival of Performance in Amherst, Massachusetts this summer. There, Producing Artistic Director Ellen Beckerman will lead a workshop in the LightBox Approach.

We are also preparing for the debut of the LightBox Youth Workshop Series, which will take place at Jane Addams High School in partnership with Urban Health Plan beginning in March 2008. The highly successful run of Milk-N-Honey is now over, and we are gearing up for our 2008 Food Theater Project Youth Workshop Series. LightBox is bringing the techniques of interview-based theatre to middle and high schools throughout the Metropolitan area.
